History

Founded in May 2018, Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment for Kentucky Veterans (HBOT4KYVETS, Inc.), is a 501(C)(3) non-profit (EIN 83-0608537) which provides funding to support Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy medical treatment and cognitive testing for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Veterans. In March 2018, HB 64, The Colonel Ronald D. Ray Traumatic Brain Injury and Treatment Act (KRS 217.930-942) was enacted which opened and made available Hyperbaric Oxygen chambers to TBI/PTSD Veterans with a medical diagnosis, prescription for HBOT, willingness to sign a Consent Form, and the ability to pay for treatments. HBOT4KYVETS assists TBI/PTSD Veterans in attaining funding for treatments. Kentucky was the fifth of ten states to enact HBOT as of 2024.

Goals

To work with state and federal legislators to gain FDA, CMS, and Tricare approval for HBOT for the treatment of mild TBI (mTBI) and PTSD Veterans; and to establish “standard of care” funding for Kentucky TBI/PTSD Veterans and first responder (Police, Fireman, EMS). To educate, train, and inform about the medical benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatment for the “physical invisible wounds” of TBI/PTSD in Veterans, athletes, and first responders.

Mission

HBOT4KYVETS, Inc has partnered with TreatNOW, a national organization established to make available, in timely fashion the superior and cost-effective treatment of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for Veterans suffering with TBI/PTSD, while also reducing addiction, aiding in detoxification, and preventing suicides. Foster a collaborative environment within government agencies, corporate and local communities to fund treatments for TBI/PTSD Veterans. Legislation for Veteran HBOT treatments enacted in ten states (OK, AZ, TX, IN, KY, NC, FL, MD, VA, WY) who voted 1,364-4 in favor of enactment with seven states funding over $32 million for treatments as of 2024.

Accomplishments

TreatNOW has treated over 31,000 patients, inclusive of the estimated 12,500 TBI/PTSD Veterans treated in the national coalition of clinics as of 2024. HBOT4KYVETS manages a medical care provider network to include three hospitals and one private clinic to provide HBOT services, two cognitive testing facilities and one drug and alcohol testing facility, all of which are under contract. HBOT4KYVETS has successfully treated TBI/PTSD Veterans to date limited in numbers only by funding. The on-going state-by-state HBOT legislative effort will continue until such time national funded legislation is enacted to cover treatment costs.
